Access Guide Templates and Resources

Every tourism business is unique, and so are the access needs of visitors.

Not every guide will look the same. An outdoor operator may need to explain terrain, pace, equipment, and assistance available, a scenic tour might focus more on structure and access. while accommodation and restaurants are highly focused on layout, facilities and amenities.

These resources and templates are designed to complement the Access Guide Modules alongside the Advisory Service. They provide a step-by-step framework for what to include and how to present it, helping you create a guide that is clear, consistent, and welcoming. The goal is simple: give visitors the information they need to feel confident, independent, and valued from the very beginning.

By using these templates, you’re not only contributing to a consistent national standard—you’re also positioning your business as part of a movement toward a more open, inclusive, and accessible tourism industry.

Prior to creating your access guide make sure you have connected with your Adaptive Advisory Service

Introduction, style and layout

The Access Guide should be visible on the menu bar and the same style and nature of your website. By creating a dedicated accessibility webpage that hosts the general information and then sub-pages of each individual location and/or experience as you have with your website. Alternatively, create a dedicated accessibility webpage as stated and for more comprehensive detail add a downloadable PDF. Having the access guide simple and separated from the other pages helps people navigate the guide rather than getting lost or overwhelmed by all the information. Importantly, your Access Guide webpage URL becomes a powerful marketing asset.

Tip. Don't bury the guide away in the footer or FAQ, rather be proud of your inclusive product, make it simple and easy to find on your menu bar

Imagery is the number one way to detail the equipment, hardware and physical access, as it tells a significant story. Although, it needs to be created with the viewer in mind and provide a written description for people with low vision.

Note: People with low vision cannot read text within an image, nor can screen readers. It's recommended not to include any page heading or text in the actual image. All images you use should have captions.

Start your guide in order of the core templates

The core structure of all Access Guides

  1. Experience Template - The core framework for every Access Guide, providing a universal base that supports all tourism experience based business types.

  2. Physical Access Template - A step-by-step map of the customers physical journey, from arrival to departure, detailing each feature along the way.

  3. Capturing Imagery - provides guidance on selecting and presenting images that clearly demonstrate access and supports informed customer decision-making.

Industry-specific templates sit alongside the Experience and Physical Access templates, adding targeted, sector-specific detail.

Additionally, the Resource Modules sit within the core Modules, but work alongside you as you build your Access Guide — giving you a practical reference point to return to whenever needed.
